Emilio Nsue Once Again Eligible to Play for Equatorial Guinea

Emilio Nsue is once again eligible to represent the Nzalang Nacional. FIFA has recently lifted the suspension that was placed on him. This decision allows the 35-year-old forward to hope for a return to the national team of Equatorial Guinea.

Good news for the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation and the supporters of the Nzalang Nacional. In May 2024, Emilio Nsue was suspended for six months by FIFA due to irregularities related to his change of sporting nationality. Having previously played for Spain's youth teams, his transition to the Equatorial Guinea national team did not comply with all the required procedures.

Equatorial Guinea Regains Its Top Scorer

The news was made public on the evening of March 6, 2025. "We are extremely happy to confirm to you today that FIFA has approved Emilio Nsue's eligibility with the national team. This is one of the greatest successes of this executive committee and a tremendous joy for the people of Equatorial Guinea", stated Venancio Tomás, the President of FEGUIFUT, accompanied by the lawyer and spokesperson of his office, Cristian Joaquín Ngua.

"The work is done. If Juan Michá wishes, he can now call up our captain for the World Cup 2026 qualifying matches scheduled during the international break in March," added Venancio Tomás, the President of FEGUIFUT.

The suspension of the top scorer of the CAN Ivory Coast 2023 had significant repercussions on the Equatorial Guinea team. The victories obtained during the first two days of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, against Namibia and Liberia, were annulled, resulting in forfeited losses. These sanctions dropped Equatorial Guinea to fifth place in group H with only 3 points, far behind Tunisia, the leader with 10 points. After obtaining the lifting of Nsue's suspension, FEGUIFUT now aims to recover the six annulled points.

"We now have to work to recover the 6 points that were taken from us after the sanction imposed on our captain," concluded the federation's lawyer and spokesperson, Cristian Joaquín Ngua.

It is therefore possible that Emilio Nsue will be called up to the national team for Equatorial Guinea's matches against São Tomé and Príncipe and Namibia during the 5th and 6th days of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
