Europa League: Mourinho lashes out at refereeing! (Video)

Known for his legendary outspoken nature, José Mourinho has once again voiced his discontent with European refereeing following the cruel elimination of Fenerbahçe from the Europa League. The illustrious Portuguese coach, furious, criticized questionable decisions that, according to him, greatly penalized his team.

A cruel scenario for Fenerbahçe

Facing Glasgow Rangers in the second leg of the round of 16 this Thursday, Fenerbahçe staged a remarkable comeback thanks to a double from Sebastian Szymanski (45th and 73rd minutes), erasing the defeat suffered in the first leg (1-3).

However, despite their determination, the Istanbul side ultimately fell in the penalty shootout (3-2). A frustrating ending, especially as several refereeing decisions sparked controversy.

José Mourinho did not hold back in expressing his outrage over the lack of sanctions in several contentious situations in the opponent's penalty area, lamenting that the VAR did not signal any penalties in favor of his team.

Refereeing under fire

After the match, the "Special One" did not hide his indignation:

"I would like to believe that what is happening to us is just a coincidence and not a consequence of the Budapest final. Since my suspension, we have been victims of incomprehensible decisions.

Today, three penalties could have been awarded, but nothing. I hope all this is just a mere coincidence..."

The 62-year-old coach is referring to the 2023 Europa League final, lost with AS Roma, where he harshly criticized the refereeing, resulting in a four-match suspension. A history that, according to him, might still influence refereeing decisions concerning him.
