All square in Group G

The stakes could not be higher for the Pharaohs ahead of their second group stage fixture.

Matchday 1 left the entire group completely open turning this upcoming encounter into a must-win battle for both sides. Egypt fought out a gritty 1-1 draw against a formidable Belgium side while New Zealand showed incredible resilience in a thrilling 2-2 stalemate against Iran.

With every nation sitting on a level playing field, securing 3 point in Canada is absolutely paramount to avoid a stressful final matchday.

Hassan's tactical blueprint

Manager Hossam Hassan is expected to rely on a blend of veteran experience and technical sharpness.

Up front, Omar Marmoush will spearhead the attack as the lone striker. Operating just behind him in a dynamic supporting trio will be global superstar Mohamed Salah in a central playmaker role, flanked by Mostafa Ziko on the right wing & Emam Ashour on the left.

In the engine room, Marwan Attia & Mohanad Lasheen are slated to form a double pivot providing defensive stability and linking play in the center of the pitch.

Defensively, the Pharaohs are tipped to deploy a solid back four consisting of Mohamed Hany on the right & Ahmed Fatouh on the left, with Yasser Ibrahim and Hamdi Fathi pairing up in the heart of the defense, all shielding Mostafa Shobeir between the posts.

  • Goalkeeper: Mostafa Shobeir
  • Defenders: Mohamed Hany, Yasser Ibrahim, Hamdi Fathi, Ahmed Fatouh
  • Defensive Midfielders: Marwan Attia, Mohanad Lasheen
  • Attacking Midfielders: Mostafa Ziko (Right Winger), Mohamed Salah (Attacking Midfielder), Emam Ashour (Left Winger)
  • Striker: Omar Marmoush

Match details & Kickoff time

The highly anticipated fixture will take place at the iconic Vancouver Stadium in Canada. For fans tuning in across the Middle East and North Africa, the referee's opening whistle will blow at 4:00 AM Cairo (5:00 AM Abu Dhabi time) on Monday 22 June.

Hunting for a historic first

While Egypt enters the match as the favorite on paper, breaking down New Zealand is historically a massive challenge at the tournament level.

The All Whites famously went undefeated during the World Cup 2010 group stage in South Africa even holding reigning champions Italy to a shock 1-1 draw.

For the Pharaohs, the motivation runs even deeper than just securing a spot in the Round of 32.

Despite their rich footballing history and dominant continental legacy in Africa, Egypt has never actually won a single match in regular time across their previous World Cup appearances in 1934, 1990 and 2018.
