FC Barcelona: Joan Laporta takes another dig at Atlético over Julián Álvarez

In recent hours, Joan Laporta has sharply criticized Atlético de Madrid over Julián Álvarez’s failed transfer to FC Barcelona.

Questioned during the General Assembly of FC Barcelona delegates, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta returned to the tensions that emerged between the two clubs during the summer transfer window. “They feigned outrage because they were unable to justify their attitude. In the end, they dropped the mask and admitted that they wanted to sell Julián, but not to Barça,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

According to Laporta, FC Barcelona had explored the possibility of signing the Argentine striker while complying with the rules. However, the club had come up against Atlético’s refusal to strengthen a direct rival. The Blaugrana president was thus responding publicly to the discontent expressed by the Madrid club when Barcelona’s interest in Julián Álvarez was revealed.

Alvarez ultimately remained at Atlético despite the steps taken by Barcelona during the transfer window.
