Fenerbahce has strongly denied allegations of racism against their head coach José Mourinho, following his post match comments after the Istanbul derby against Galatasaray. The club's condemned Galatasaray’s accusations as baseless and has vowed to take legal action in defense of their manager.

Galatasaray's Allegations & Legal Action

Galatasaray announced that they're pursuing legal action against Mourinho over remarks he made during the press conference following the 0 - 0 draw between the 2 Turkish giants. The club deemed his statements offensive to the turkish people and confirmed that official complaints would be lodged with UEFA & FIFA.

The controversy erupted after mourinho commented that Galatasaray’s bench "jumped like monkeys” in reaction to early referee decision. The remark was widely criticized with Galatasaray branding it as racist insult and calling for immediate disciplinary measures.

Fenerbahce's Response

In official statement Fenerbahce dismissed the accusations, claiming that Mourinho’s comments were taken out of context. “As any reasonable person can see Mourinho was simply describing exaggerated reaction on the opposition bench. His words have nothing to do with racism,” the club stated.

Club vice president Acun Ilıcalı echoed this sentiment, arguing that using animal metaphors is common form of speech. “We say things like ‘you run like a rabbit’ or ‘you’re cunning like a fox’ it’s just figure of speech,” he explained. Ilıcalı further confirmed that Fenerbahce's preparing to counter Galatasaray’s legal claims in court.

Turkish FA Disciplinary Action

The Turkish Football Federation has stepped into the dispute by referring Mourinho to its disciplinary committee for “unsportsmanlike behavior” & “offensive remarks.” If found guilty, the Portuguese manager could face fine and suspension of up to 6 month.

Additionally TFF has summoned Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk and several members of both teams’ technical staff for disciplinary review. Even Galatasaray’s injured striker Mauro Icardi is under investigation for alleged rule violations while watching from the stands.
