French league: Mendy opens his scoring account

Antoine Mendy finally netted his first goal in the French Ligue 1 since making his debut in May 2021. The Senegalese defender found the back of the net this Saturday in Nice’s 1-3 defeat to Strasbourg.

Antoine Mendy’s first goal in the French top flight is a fitting reward for his outstanding season. The 21-year-old defender has started 18 of his 19 league appearances this campaign, establishing himself as a key figure in the backline.

But his goal wasn’t enough to rescue the Eagles, who crumbled in the first half against a tenacious Strasbourg side. Goals from Martial Godo (28’), Julio Enciso (36’), and Samir El Morabet (42’) sealed Nice’s fate, as they never managed a comeback. Mendy, who joined Nice in 2021, showed his fighting spirit by netting a consolation goal in the 82nd minute.
