Habib Beye reveals why his move to Nantes never happened
In December 2024, FC Nantes, in search of a successor to Antoine Kombouaré, turned to Habib Beye. Discussions between the two parties had progressed well and an agreement seemed close. However, differences emerged, and the two parties decided to end the negotiations.
The former Red Star coach and currently at the helm of Stade Rennais, Habib Beye addressed the issue on Wednesday, April 17, in a press conference and clarified why his potential move to FC Nantes in 2024 failed. Some rumors suggested that the staff proposed by the Senegalese didn't convince the Canaries, while others mentioned a salary deemed too high by the coach. According to the 47-year-old, these were not the reasons.
“My version is that it's not the truth that was told. The one who refused to go to Nantes was me, not the Nantes club. I am where I should be, I made the right choice,” he explained.
Following this episode, Habib Beye quickly bounced back at Rennes. Since his arrival, the Rennes club is steadily moving away from the danger zone and could very well remain in Ligue 1 next season.
