Hakim Ziyech takes aim at Walid Regragui, the web ignites
Hakim Ziyech made headlines this Saturday, March 22, with a post on social media. A post that seems to target the Atlas Lions' coach, Walid Regragui.
The tension between Hakim Ziyech and Walid Regragui is escalating. The Al-Duhail SC player has probably not yet come to terms with his omission from the squad for this March's international break with the Atlas Lions. Following Morocco's last-gasp victory (2-1) against Niger, the former Chelsea player made a striking post on social media aimed at Regragui.
"They will need you again, make sure you don't forget how they played with you!" he posted on his Instagram account. An enigmatic message, to be sure, but one that takes a jab at the 49-year-old Moroccan coach. Just after announcing his squad, Regragui had justified Ziyech's absence by citing his limited playing time and below-average performances at club level.
The Moroccan coach also stated that the former Ajax Amsterdam player must regain his past form before being considered for a return to the Atlas Lions' den. Remarks that certainly did not sit well with Ziyech. The two men are unlikely to spend their holidays together. It remains to be seen how the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) will handle this situation.
