How Prayer Led Odion Ighalo to Manchester United?
In football, what matters the most? Talent? Hard work or luck? If you ask Odion Ighalo, he will tell you that all those are important. But prayer, even more so. The Nigerian international recently revealed the behind-the-scenes of his unexpected transfer to Manchester United. And it's more than just a memory.
Currently at Al Wehda in the Saudi Pro League, Odion Ighalo has never forgotten his stint at Manchester United. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Nigerian striker recounted the moment that changed his career:
My agent called me to say that Manchester United wanted a striker on loan because Martial and Rashford were injured and they needed a backup striker. I started praying against those other options and said that those other options would not work. I prayed, prayed, and prayed. And two days later, my agent called me and said they wanted to sign me because the other options didn’t work out, and I said thank you God, thank you God. I still couldn’t believe my eyes. When I saw the offer they sent me, the letter... on Manchester United letterhead, I got goosebumps.
In 23 appearances, Odion Ighalo scored 5 goals and provided one assist. A modest tally, but the fulfillment of a childhood dream. At 35, he continues his journey with the same determination in the Saudi Pro League. An example of perseverance and faith in his abilities.
