Idrissa Gueye: spotlight on FC Metz's new attacking sensation
It only took a few weeks for Idrissa Gueye to make a strong impression in Lorraine. At just 18 years old, this pure product of Génération Foot landed in Metz on January 10th. Since then, he has delivered a series of convincing performances.
Trained at Génération Foot, a renowned academy in Dakar, Idrissa Gueye won the title of Senegal champion 2022-2023 at the age of 16. At 17, he was called up to the Senegal U17 national team to participate in the 2023 U17 World Cup. Later, the young talent from Génération Foot took part in the African Games Ghana 2024 with the Senegal U20 national team.
His transfer to Metz in January 2025, as part of the partnership between the two clubs, revealed a player with a sharp edge. On his first start on January 18th, he scored his first goal with Metz in Ligue 2 during their 3-1 victory over Paris FC.
In February, he was voted "Grenat of the Month" by the club's supporters, ahead of teammates such as Benjamin Stambouli and Papa Amadou Diallo, with 38% of the votes. A few weeks later, Idrissa Gueye was named March's Rising Star in Ligue 2.
Under contract until 2029 with FC Metz, Idrissa Gueye represents much more than a bet on the future. He currently boasts 4 goals and 1 assist in 14 Ligue 2 appearances in the colors of the Grenats. Numbers the Senegalese forward could further update before the end of the 2024/2025 campaign.
