La Liga: Real Madrid Triumphs and Reclaims Second Place!
In a match held this Sunday at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid clinched victory against Rayo Vallecano (2-1) thanks to their explosive duo Vinicius-Mbappé. This win allows Los Merengues to reclaim second place ahead of Atlético Madrid, whom they will face again on Wednesday in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Indeed, following Atlético's surprise defeat to Getafe earlier in the day, Real Madrid had a great opportunity to seize second place. Against a resilient Rayo Vallecano, Carlo Ancelotti's men, missing Courtois and Rüdiger, fielded an unprecedented central defense with Asensio and Alaba, and an attacking quartet of Bellingham, Rodrygo, Vinicius, and Mbappé.
From the start, Los Merengues set the pace. Vinicius hit the post before Mbappé tested Batalla (14th minute). Finally, the duo struck: on a through ball from the Brazilian, Mbappé bypassed Lejeune and scored with a brilliant curled shot (1-0, 30th minute). Four minutes later, Vinicius doubled the lead after an impressive dribbling sequence (2-0, 34th minute).
Real Madrid, Nervous but Effective
However, Real showed signs of nervousness in defense, allowing Pedro Diaz to narrow the gap with a magnificent strike under the bar (2-1, 45+2 minutes).
In the second half, despite clear chances from Vinicius and Mbappé (54th, 76th minute), the score remained unchanged. Los Merengues, struggling towards the end of the match, still secured the essential by winning and overtaking Atlético.
Rayo, now seventh, will need to bounce back against Real Sociedad to hope for a return to the European zone.
