Riyad Mahrez and Aïssa Mandi have once again etched their names into the annals of Algerian football history. During the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted in Morocco, the two national team stalwarts set a new all-time record with the Fennecs.

According to statistics published by the French outlet Stats Foot, Mahrez and Mandi are now the most capped Algerian players in the final stages of the Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing the long-standing record held by legend Rabah Madjer.

This milestone was reached during their appearance against DR Congo in the round of 16 at the continental tournament, with Mahrez and Mandi both raising their tally to 23 AFCON finals matches, overtaking Madjer's 22.

Moreover, Algeria booked their ticket to the quarterfinals of AFCON 2025 by overcoming DR Congo. The Fennecs' qualification was sealed with a spectacular goal from Adel Boulbina, struck in the 118th minute of extra time, his thunderous shot leaving Leopards keeper Mbasi with no chance.
