Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, voiced serious concerns after French striker Hugo Ekitike suffered an injury during the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain. The forward was forced to leave the pitch early, departing as soon as the 30th minute.

Could Ekitike miss the World Cup after his injury?

During the post-match press conference, the Dutch coach stated:

“Ekitike has suffered a significant injury, which appears to be quite serious. I don’t know if he’ll be able to return before the end of the season,” confirming the striker left the field visibly shaken.

He added: “I can’t provide any more details at the moment. We have to wait for the results of the medical examinations.”

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, Slot also admitted: “The initial signs are not encouraging. We’re awaiting the test results to learn more.”

According to Canal+ Foot, the injury involves the Achilles tendon (which connects the calf to the heel), though the exact severity has yet to be determined.

The player will undergo a thorough medical assessment in the coming hours to precisely evaluate the nature of his injury and the length of his absence.
