Paris struck hard at the Etihad, dominating Manchester City 4-2 in a spectacular and thoroughly controlled match.

Unlike Real Madrid, who managed to overturn a 3-1 deficit against AS Roma to win 4-3 on the same evening, Manchester City were unable to achieve the same feat against Paris Saint-Germain. Trailing 3-0 at half-time, the Citizens responded after the break but ultimately lost 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on the second matchday of the Champions League.

The first half was completely dominated by Paris. The reigning two-time European champions punished City through Désiré Doué in the 13th minute, followed by Ousmane Dembélé two minutes later. Vitinha then scored the third goal in the 32nd minute to send Paris into the dressing room with a commanding lead.

Manchester City respond, but Paris do not falter

After the break, Enzo Maresca’s men finally took control of possession and showed a much more aggressive approach. Their revival was rewarded when Haaland headed in a perfectly delivered cross from Ndiaye to make it 3-1.

Manchester City then pushed to get further back into the match but were unable to score the second goal quickly enough—a goal that could have completely reignited the suspense. Paris eventually punished that lack of efficiency. Following a shot from Maghnes Akliouche that Gianluigi Donnarumma failed to clear properly, the ball ended up in the net to make it 4-1.

The Citizens nevertheless continued to attack. After a run down the right by Bouaddi, he found Haaland inside the box. The Norwegian kept his composure to complete his brace and reduce the deficit to 4-2. It was too late, however, to prevent PSG from leaving Manchester with a prestigious victory.

Two domestic fixtures this weekend

Manchester City will have to quickly turn the page. The Citizens will return to the Premier League on October 17 when they host Ipswich Town.

PSG, meanwhile, will travel to face Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on the same day, before returning to the Champions League a few days later.

Paris therefore leave the Etihad with a 4-2 victory that was as spectacular as it was convincing, while Manchester City will primarily rue a completely disastrous first half.
