Manchester City suffered another setback in their season after 2 - 0 home defeat to Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday as part of Matchday 26 of the Premier League.

The defending champions are enduring tough campaign having already been eliminated early from the UEFA champions league by Real Madrid in the playoff round. Their domestic form has also dipped as they dropped to 4th place in the league standings.

Marmoush’s Arrival & High Expectations

City bolstered their squad during the winter transfer window with the most notable signing being egyptian forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt. The 25 year old had outstanding season in the Bundesliga scoring 20 goal and providing 14 assist making him one of europe’s most exciting attacking talents.

Many expected his arrival to revitalize City’s attack but his start at the club has been mixed, raising questions about whether Marmoush's paying the price for City’s underwhelming season.

Marmoush was handed starting debut against Chelsea but he failed to find the net in his first 4 appearances he announced himself in style with hat trick against Newcastle United.

Despite this, he's struggled for consistency, failing to score in 6 other matches. His goal against Liverpool was disallowed for offside and he was denied by the crossbar against Real Madrid.

Guardiola’s Frustration with Marmoush

During the Liverpool match, Pep Guardiola was seen animatedly instructing Marmoush urging him to make deeper attacking runs and penetrate Liverpool’s defensive line.

The reality is that manchester city’s form has impacted individual performances, particularly the new signings, Marmoush has arguably been City’s most impressive attacking recruit alongside Erling Haaland.
