Michael Olunga close to winning a second Qatar Cup with Al Duhail
This Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Michael Olunga and Al Duhail SC qualified for the final of the 2025 Qatar Cup after defeating and eliminating Al-Gharafa SC in a penalty shootout (0-0, pen 4-3) in the semi-final. The Kenyan international and his club are now on their way to a sixth title in this competition.
On April 6, 2023, Al Duhail conquered the Qatar Cup by defeating Al Sadd 2-0. Michael Olunga opened the scoring in the 48th minute, followed by a goal from Ferjani Sassi in the 54th minute. This victory marked their fifth title in this competition, following wins in 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2019. For Michael Olunga, it was his first Qatar Cup win in his third season with Al Duhail SC. That same year, the Kenyan striker was crowned champion with the Doha club.
As in the 2023 final, Michael Olunga and Al Duhail SC will face Al Sadd in the 2025 Qatar Cup final on May 5 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. A clash with the flavor of revenge! If victorious, the Doha club will reaffirm its supremacy over its 2023 rival, and Olunga will add another title to his trophy cabinet.
