MLS: Prince Owusu joins legends Di Vaio and Piatti in Montreal history
Prince Owusu continues to etch his name in CF Montréal's history books. The Ghanaian striker netted his 12th league goal of the season in the 2-1 victory for Montréal over Columbus, becoming just the third player in club history to reach at least 25 goals over two seasons. He now joins the exclusive company of former stars Marco Di Vaio and Ignacio Piatti.
Prince Owusu made his mark early in the match. In just the 5th minute, the 28-year-old striker opened the scoring with a composed finish off a pass from Hennadii Synchuk, putting CF Montréal in control from the outset. Columbus equalized in the 20th minute thanks to an own goal by Thomas Gillier, but Noah Streit restored the visitors' lead for good in the 78th minute.
A benchmark season
This latest achievement confirms the outstanding form of the Ghanaian international. Owusu now boasts 12 goals and 6 assists in 19 MLS matches this season, making him one of the main architects of Montréal's campaign.
Across all competitions, his 2026 tally stands at 13 goals and 6 assists in 22 appearances. Such efficiency is steadily helping him climb the club's historical ranks.
Following in the footsteps of Di Vaio and Piatti
By hitting the 25-goal mark over two seasons, Prince Owusu joins Marco Di Vaio and Ignacio Piatti, two players who left an indelible mark on CF Montréal's history. This feat adds a new dimension to the Ghanaian striker's season, as his influence now extends beyond mere statistics.
And his impact isn't limited to goals alone. Against Columbus, Montréal managed to withstand the Crew's 61.8% possession by being far more threatening, with 14 shots to 6 and 7 shots on target versus just 2 for their opponents.
Thanks to this 2-1 away win, Montréal secured a valuable result on the road. And at the heart of this success, Prince Owusu continues to rack up the numbers and move ever closer to the club's historic benchmarks.
