Morocco: first words from new head coach Mohamed Ouahbi

It’s official: Mohamed Ouahbi is now at the helm of Morocco. The new head coach of the Atlas Lions was presented to the media on Thursday evening and shared his first impressions.

Walid Regragui officially stepped down as Morocco’s head coach on Thursday evening. This comes a month and a half after the heartbreaking loss in the CAN 2025 final on home soil, and just three months before the 2026 World Cup. To fill the vacancy, the Moroccan federation has appointed Mohamed Ouahbi. He is the coach who led the U20 national team to a world championship title in their category last October in Chile.

"I am aware of the expectations, deeply honored, and I am truly committed to working with seriousness and humility, with determination and above all, with a great sense of patriotism to keep pushing this team forward," assured the new Atlas Lions boss during his press conference. "There’s no need for a revolution. We all experienced trauma as Moroccans. That final (of the CAN, editor’s note) was a tough moment, but I believe what’s most important now is continuity," declared the new head of the Atlas Lions.
