World Cup 2026: 9 injured in armed attack near England team base camp

Nine people were injured by gunfire in a shooting that took place overnight from Friday to Saturday in Kansas City, United States. The incident occurred near the future base camp of the England team for the 2026 World Cup.

According to local police, the incident happened around 4 a.m. on Troost Avenue, just minutes from the training center and hotel that the England squad is set to use during the tournament. Law enforcement responded after reports of gunshots and arrived to find a scene marked by a dispersing crowd.

The victims, all adults, were transported to several hospitals across the city. Authorities clarified that their injuries are not considered life-threatening. No suspects have been arrested at this stage, but investigations are ongoing and a heightened police presence has been deployed in the area.

The incident comes as teams participating in the 2026 World Cup continue their preparations. The England squad is not yet in Kansas City, currently holding a training camp in Florida before heading to their base camp in the coming days.

Local authorities have not established any link between the shooting and the expected presence of international teams, but this event does raise questions about security around World Cup-related sites.
