Mourinho Fires Back at Racism Allegations, Highlights Strong Ties with Africa

Renowned Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho's strongly refuted allegations of racism leveled against him by Galatasaray officials calling them attempt to tarnish his reputation and get him suspended in the Turkish Super Lig.

Mourinho Denies Racism Allegations

Speaking in interview with Sky Sports News, Mourinho dismissed the claims, emphasizing his deep connections with african players and communities “They weren’t smart in how they attacked me. They don’t know my background, my relationships with african players, their people and the charities I support” Mourinho stated.

The controversy erupted after heated Istanbul derby that ended in goalless draw. Galatasaray accused Mourinho of making racist remarks towards their coaching staff alleging he likened their sideline reactions to “jumping like monkeys” when pressuring the referee to send off Fenerbahce’s young defender Yusuf Akcik 19. Mourinho clarified that he was referring specifically to Galatasaray’s head coach Okan Buruk.

When asked if he regretted his choice of words, Mourinho took moment to reflect before responding “Sometimes I stoop to their level and I later ask myself ‘Why did I do that?’ It was just sad”.

Support from Former Players & Football Icons

Mourinho expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received even from those who don’t necessarily like him. He particularly appreciated backing from his former Chelsea stars Didier Drogba & Michael Essien who defended him on social media.

However, Drogba’s support wasn’t well received by some Galatasaray fans who reacted by burning his jersey in the streets despite his past contributions to the club.

Mourinho also credited social media for playing crucial role in reducing his suspension from 4 match to 2. “The day my suspension was announced, people found picture of the disciplinary committee chairman celebrating with his friends while wearing Galatasaray jersey. That tells you everything” he ended.
