Nigeria Premier League: Finidi George Praises Rivers United After Hard-Fought Win Over Niger Tornadoes

Rivers United head coach Finidi George expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance following their 1 - 0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in their matchday 28 fixture. Samson Obi’s goal secured all 3 point narrowing the gap to league leaders Remo Stars to 8 point.

Challenging Conditions & Tactical Battle

Finidi acknowledged that tough weather conditions made the game more difficult for his players.

“I think the weather made things difficult for us. Every game going forward will be like this and we're also playing away matches. It will be battle we must fight” Finidi told Rivers United’s media.

He also noted Niger Tornadoes’ tactical changes compared to their reverse fixture encounter.

“They're different team tactically now. If they had picked point here it would have been good for them but we thank God the goal came. We just have to accept the 3 point and move forward”.

Strengthening the Squad for Title Challenge

Looking ahead Finidi believes the arrival of former NPFL top scorer Chijioke Mbaoma and other reinforcements will boost Rivers United’s title ambitions.

“These are experienced players especially strikers. I’m happy with their contributions and we must keep this going to see how far we can go” he said.

Finidi remains optimistic about closing the gap on league leaders Remo Stars & Rangers.

“If we can pick points away and win our home games fighting for the league title is still possible. We know Remo Stars and Rangers are still coming to Port Harcourt. If we keep pushing we can put pressure on them and they might slip”

Rivers United will travel to face El Kanemi Warriors in their next league match as they continue their pursuit of the NPFL title.
