Olympique de Marseille Drops Pursuit of Yves Bissouma

Olympique de Marseille will not pursue the Yves Bissouma option despite the speculation surrounding his future at Tottenham Hotspur. Although he has an intriguing profile, OM has several reasons not to sign the Malian midfielder.

Since joining Tottenham in 2022, Yves Bissouma has experienced ups and downs. Recently, reports have circulated about a possible sidelining of the 28-year-old player due to limited playing time under new coach Ange Postecoglou. This situation has fueled transfer rumors, with clubs like OGC Nice, Crystal Palace, and OM mentioned as potential suitors.

AFCON 2025: A Decisive Factor for OM

According to recent reports from the French press, the Marseille club has decided to withdraw from the race. The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 is said to be the main motivation for this change of course. Indeed, OM currently has African players often called up for national duty. With a strong likelihood of their participation in the AFCON scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, Marseille will need to rely on other players with convincing performances.

Yves Bissouma has a good profile, but he is primarily a regular in Mali's national team gatherings. The Eagles have qualified for the AFCON in Morocco and could call on the Tottenham midfielder. This would not be advantageous for OM. A pertinent and major reason that excludes Bissouma from the plans of the Marseille squad.
