Olympique de Marseille is navigating an especially challenging period following a dip in form in Ligue 1 and their exit from the Champions League. This situation has ramped up internal pressure and placed sporting director Mehdi Benatia squarely in the firing line of criticism.

Benatia offers to resign in solidarity with De Zerbi... management refuses

Following the announcement of Roberto De Zerbi's departure, RMC Sport revealed that the former Atlas Lions defender had tendered his resignation in solidarity with the coach, believing that responsibility could not fall on just one person. However, the club's management immediately rejected his offer.

After this refusal, Benatia gathered the players in the locker room to speak with them. He acknowledged his share of responsibility and urged them to fully own theirs in light of the current situation.

He stated: "The coach is no longer here, he took responsibility. I am also ready to take mine and leave the club—even though I will stay in Marseille because I love this city and I love this club."

He added: "If the rules are too harsh, I can leave and let you be. Just say the word. Otherwise, we turn the page and move forward together."

The former Moroccan international concluded his address by calling for unity and mobilization for the remainder of the season, while continuing, for now, his mission within the club.
