Southampton fans're standing by Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu despite the club’s ongoing struggles in the Premier League. The Nigerian forward found the net in their latest 2 -1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. Mary’s Stadium marking his first home goal for the Saints.

Jørgen Strand Larsen gave Wolves the lead in the 19 minute before doubling their advantage early in the 2nd half. Onuachu introduced after halftime, made immediate impact, nearly scoring in the 60 minute before finally striking in the 75. His goal, his 3rd of the season, offered glimmer of hope but Southampton couldn’t complete the comeback.

Fans Show Their Support

Despite Southampton’s dismal season, supporters unveiled banner reading “In Tall Paul We Trust” showing admiration for the towering forward. Onuachu's slowly regained form after struggling in his debut season and being loaned to Trabzonspor where he rediscovered his scoring touch with 17 goal in 25 games.

Onuachu Speaks Out

After the game Onuachu admitted frustration with the team’s performance:

“It’s difficult scoring my 1st goal in front of the fans and still losing. We need to do better as team and individually. We'd good start but it’s hard to explain the loss. We were the better team at times but it’s just not good enough.”

Relegation Looms

Southampton's now lost 9 consecutive home games, feat matched by only 3 other teams in english top flight history. They sit at the bottom of the table with just 9 points from 29 match, making relegation almost inevitable.

Onuachu, however remains determined to fight:

“We've to keep fighting. There's something missing and we need to find it fast.”
