Premier League: Arsenal clinches the derby against Chelsea!
Arsenal continues to lead the way in the prestigious English Premier League. This Sunday, the Gunners brilliantly won the London derby against Chelsea (1-0) thanks to a goal by Mikel Merino in the 29th round. This victory allows them to widen the gap with the Blues, now trailing by nine points.
Without being spectacular, Arsenal ensured the essentials at the Emirates Stadium. Dominant at the start, Mikel Arteta's men quickly tested Robert Sanchez, who made two notable saves against Gabriel Martinelli (9th, 11th).
However, the Spanish goalkeeper could do nothing about a well-placed header by Merino, from an Odegaard corner (20th).
Arsenal, excelling in this exercise with no less than 28 goals scored from corners this season, then maintained their advantage.
Arsenal slowly closes in on leader Liverpool
Chelsea tried to respond but, without young maestro Cole Palmer, their offensive play remained sterile. Marc Cucurella nearly surprised Raya with a volley (37th), but it wasn't enough.
Arsenal could have even doubled their lead, but Sanchez once again stood out (60th, 64th).
With these three points, the London armada consolidates its Champions League qualifying spot and slowly but surely closes in on the leader, Liverpool.
The current Premier League Top 4:
