Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish league, recently revisited the topic of Xabi Alonso's dismissal from Real Madrid. The decision from the Madrid board came in the aftermath of their defeat to Barcelona (3-2) in the 2026 Spanish Super Cup final. Tebas considered the move anything but easy, highlighting the immense challenges a manager can face at a club of Real Madrid's stature.

"It must have been tough for him. The decision was by no means easy," Javier Tebas revealed to the media. The Spanish official noted that Alonso's departure, coming mid-season and only a few months after he took charge, was certainly a difficult moment in his coaching career.
