Real Madrid: Toni Kroos opens up about his retirement
Toni Kroos

In a recent interview, Toni Kroos reflected on his professional retirement.

Last summer, Toni Kroos decided to hang up his boots at just 34 years old, even though he was still an undisputed starter at Real Madrid. But finishing on a high note was crucial for the German midfielder: "I thought about it for several months. I didn't just wake up one morning and say: 'You have to retire!' No, I gave it a lot of thought. I had already considered retiring the previous year, but in the end, I decided to extend for one more season with Real Madrid, who really wanted me to stay," he revealed in an interview with El Pais Semanal.

"But that didn't change my idea, which has always been to retire this way, and fortunately, I managed to do so. I think it's hard to do any better than my final season with Real Madrid. I walked away after winning La Liga and the Champions League. Goodbye. It's best to leave on a positive note. You go out with a sense of well-being because it's you who made the decision," Kroos added.
