Real Madrid's perfect night spoiled by bad news
Real Madrid can savor their resounding 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Driven by a dazzling Federico Valverde, who netted a sensational hat-trick, Los Merengues have taken a commanding lead ahead of the return leg in England.

However, it wasn’t a flawless evening for the Madrid side. At the start of the second half, left-back Ferland Mendy experienced physical discomfort that forced him off the pitch as early as the 46th minute, with Fran García coming on to replace him after what had been a solid performance at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa didn’t hide his concern about his defender’s condition.
"He’s injured, yes. It doesn’t look good, but I appreciate his efforts. It was risky to play him in two consecutive matches after such a long layoff. I took that risk and I’m grateful. It’s a pleasure to coach him."
This uncertainty could weigh heavily on preparations for the second leg against the Citizens.
