Senegal: Pape Thiaw's big revelation about Assane Diao's arrival

The Senegal coach, Pape Thiaw, recently called up young Assane Diao to compete in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with the Lions of Teranga. The Senegalese coach, during his conference, did not forget to explain the story behind this call-up.

Assane Diao's arrival with the Lions of Teranga was not a given. The 19-year-old, trained in Spain, had the opportunity to join La Roja. Everything was already set for him to receive his first call-up to the Spanish national team during this March break. But at the last minute, the Como player played the patriotism card. Pape Thiaw recounts the strong choice made by Diao:

It's true that I went to Spain and talked with Assane, who always showed me that his choice was a heartfelt one. He has always dreamed of representing Senegal. I believe that Senegalese blood runs in his veins, and I trust him. When I spoke with this kid, he was eager. I've had the chance to meet many players abroad. Some are on the list, while others are not. However, I will continue to engage with them, present my project, and when the time comes, I am convinced they will be ready to step up. It's essential to build a strong team, and every player has a role to play in this adventure.

Now in the den of the Lions of Teranga, Assane Diao has everything to explode. Surrounded by leaders like Sadio Mané, Gana Gueye, and Kalidou Coulibaly, he has the opportunity to benefit from their experiences to build his reputation and win the hearts of the fans.
