🔴 Shockwave: Senegalese striker suspended for two years over doping!
In a bombshell case, the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) has handed a two-year suspension to Senegalese striker Ibrahima Niane after he tested positive for two banned substances: ecstasy and MDMA. The test, conducted nearly two and a half years ago, has now resulted in this sanction, with the player unable to provide a convincing explanation.
According to the newspaper L’Équipe, the sanction against the former international for the Lions of Teranga will take effect on March 31, 2025. At 26 years old, Niane is now barred from any professional sporting activity, whether in official competition or even during team training sessions.
Tension in Angers before the sanction
Just days before the suspension was made official, Ibrahima Niane had already sparked controversy within SCO Angers. During a training session, he violently tackled his teammate Florent Hanin before engaging in a heated verbal altercation with head coach Alexandre Dujeux. The club immediately decided to sideline him from the squad starting April 27. The disciplinary sanction was made public on April 30.
Having made his name at FC Metz, Niane was once considered one of the brightest prospects in both African and French football. But this doping scandal could mark a dramatic turning point in his career. With a two-year suspension and his contract with Angers ending this summer, the professional future of the Senegalese striker is now shrouded in uncertainty.
