The Fight Off the Pitch: Emam Ashour wins his toughest battle yet

Al Ahly and Egypt national team midfielder Emam Ashour is reportedly making steady progress in his recovery after being diagnosed with Hepatitis according to multiple reports in Cairo.

The 26 year old playmaker who finished last season as the Egyptian Premier League’s top scorer, has been under close medical observation over the past week following his viral infection.

Encouraging updates

Veteran broadcaster Ahmed Shobeir revealed on his radio show that he remains in regular contact with Ashour confirming that the player’s health is improving steadily and that recent medical tests have shown positive results.

"He’s doing much better now, The doctors expect him to return to full training within 4 day at most and there’s even chance he could feature in the Egyptian Super Cup" Shobeir said.

From injury to illness

Ashour’s recent illness came at difficult moment in his career.
He had just returned from serious shoulder injury sustained during Al Ahly’s FIFA Club World Cup opener against Inter Miami earlier this season.

After nearly 2 month of rehabilitation, he made his comeback with brief substitute appearance against ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League, only to be sidelined again by his sudden infection.
