Transfer market: Is Bilal El Touré heading back to Atalanta?
El Bilal Touré, currently on loan to VfB Stuttgart from Atalanta Bergamo, seems poised for a return to Italy at the end of the season. Despite promising performances in the Bundesliga, contractual complications and high financial demands make his future uncertain.
The Malian striker arrived in Stuttgart in August 2024 after a difficult season in Bergamo marred by recurring injuries. In Germany, Bilal El Touré made an encouraging start.
A contrasting loan at Stuttgart
During his debut for VfB Stuttgart, the Malian forward showed glimpses of his talent in the Bundesliga with 3 goals in 11 appearances. However, a metatarsal fracture during a match against Eswatini last November with the Mali national team halted his progress. The 23-year-old Eagle was sidelined for several months, from November 20 to March 7, 2025. Recently back in competition, he has been called up with the Malian squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He also has 3 appearances with the German club as a substitute.
Stuttgart keen to keep him, but at what cost?
According to the latest reports, Stuttgart's coach Sebastian Hoeness is particularly fond of Touré's quick and agile profile and wishes to retain him beyond his current loan. However, several issues could hinder this ambition. One of the conditions for the purchase option to become mandatory was that Touré participate in 70% of the season's matches, a target not met due to his prolonged absences.
Additionally, some sources report that Stuttgart has nonetheless begun negotiations with Atalanta Bergamo to keep the Malian. But the Italian club is demanding at least 20 million euros for a permanent transfer. This sum poses a financial challenge for Stuttgart, especially since Atalanta initially recruited Touré for around 30 million euros from UD Almería.
Will Bilal El Touré stay at Stuttgart or return to Atalanta Bergamo this summer? Stay tuned...
