U17 AFCON: Mali edges Angola and starts the tournament strong

The Mali team kicked off their campaign at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations with a narrow 2-1 victory over Angola on Tuesday, April 1st, at the Municipal Stadium of Berrechid. This success places the young Eagles at the top of Group D, pending the clash between Ivory Coast and the Central African Republic scheduled for later in the evening.

In the 11th minute, Ndjicoura Bomba opened the scoring for Mali with a right-footed strike into the top corner following a precise pass from Seydou Dembele.

Despite several opportunities to widen the gap, the Malians were pegged back just before the break. Angolan Jayden Puna equalized in first-half stoppage time, capitalizing on a header from Manelson to score from close range. After a brief VAR check, the goal stood.

In the second half, both teams intensified their efforts to take the lead in a physical match. It was Mali who finally broke through in the 74th minute thanks to Soungalo Coulibaly, securing the victory for his side. This result allows the Eagles to start the tournament on a positive note.
