U20 AFCON: Central African Republic replaces Congo (Official)
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced that the Central African Republic will replace Congo in the upcoming Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, U20 AFCON. This decision comes after Congo's suspension by FIFA.
Initially defeated by the DRC (1-1, 4-3 on penalties) in the semi-finals of the Central African Football Federations' Union (UNIFFAC) qualifiers, it was the Cameroon team that initially hoped for a wildcard for the final phase, scheduled from April 26 to May 18 in Côte d'Ivoire.
However, CAF ruled in favor of the Central African Republic, which had been eliminated by Congo (2-0) in the semi-finals.
Announcement officialized by the Central African Federation
The announcement was made official this Saturday, March 22, by the Central African Football Federation (FCF) on its Facebook page.
"Following Congo's suspension by FIFA, the CAF youth competitions committee has decided to select the Central African Republic for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, TotalEnergies, Côte d'Ivoire 2025."
The statement from the Central African Football Federation:
This unexpected opportunity offers young Central African talents a chance to shine on the continental stage.
