U20 Women's World Cup: Ghana aims to break the curse

Seven appearances, zero qualifications for the second round. Ghana is determined to turn the page in their eighth outing at the U20 Women's World Cup Poland 2026. Charles Sampson is on a mission to help the Black Princesses take the next step.

A tough group, but an accessible start

The draw is anything but simple. Ghana will compete in Group C, facing three teams who have already made their mark on the tournament. But there’s an opening. The Ghanaian side kicks off against Ecuador on September 6. It's the South Americans' first appearance—a theoretically more manageable opponent on paper.

Next up is South Korea, third-place finishers in 2010. Both teams have reached the same number of final tournaments. This will likely be a direct battle for second place. Ghana will wrap up the group stage against France. Runners-up in 2016 and fresh off a recent U19 Euro final, Les Bleuettes are clear title contenders. To reach this stage, Ghana ousted Uganda in the final qualifying round, winning 3-2 on aggregate.

After Nigeria and its 11 appearances, Ghana stands as Africa’s second-most present nation. With eight appearances, the Black Princesses are determined to finally make it past the group stage.

Ghana's schedule

  1. Sunday, September 6, 16:00: Ecuador vs Ghana
  2. Wednesday, September 9, 13:00: Ghana vs South Korea
  3. Saturday, September 12, 16:00: Ghana vs France
