UFOA B U20: Ghana defeated 4-2 by Nigeria

The qualifiers for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations continue in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire. On July 27, Nigeria claimed a 4-2 victory over Ghana.

Plenty of goals

The Flying Eagles came out firing. Olayemi Ayinla opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a long-range strike. Ghana responded and quickly equalized, capitalizing on a lapse in the Nigerian defense. Before halftime, Nigeria regained the lead with a penalty calmly converted by Abdulmuiz Adeleke. It was 3-1 at the break.

After the break, the Black Satellites pressed forward. They won and converted a penalty to make it 3-2, launching a series of attacking moves. But as Ghana pushed for an equalizer, they left gaps at the back. Adeleke bagged his brace in the closing minutes to seal the 4-2 win.

Nigeria tops Group B

Nigeria kicks off their tournament campaign in style, taking the top spot in Group B with 3 points and a +2 goal difference, pending the other match between Burkina Faso and Togo at 18:00 GMT. Next up, Nigeria faces Togo on July 30, then Burkina Faso on August 2.

For Ghana, it's a setback, but their second-half performance was encouraging. They'll need to bounce back in their next match to keep qualification hopes alive. Remember, only the two finalists will qualify for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ghana.
