(Video) Why Arda Guler was sent off after the final whistle in Munich?
The Champions League quarter final second leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid remained evenly matched for most of the game, with both teams exchanging periods of dominance and chances.
However the turning point came after an hour of play when Eduardo Camavinga entered the match in the 62 minute.
The French midfielder quickly became central to the match’s outcome. He received his first yellow card in the 78 minute before being shown a second yellow in the 86 minute reducing Real Madrid to ten men at a critical stage, with the game seemingly heading toward extra time.
Bayern Munich immediately took advantage of the numerical superiority. Within minutes of Camavinga’s dismissal, they struck twice in quick succession.
Luis Díaz brought Bayern level before Michael Olise completed the turnaround, scoring what proved to be the decisive fourth goal in the closing moments.
The timing of the goal left Real Madrid with no opportunity to respond.
Final whistle controversy ignites protests
Tensions escalated at full time when the referee blew the final whistle almost instantly after Olise’s goal prompting furious reactions from Real Madrid players.
Arda Güler was at the center of the protests sprinting toward the referee to challenge the decision. The confrontation resulted in straight red card adding further controversy to an already dramatic conclusion.
