(Watch) French Super Cup decided in unforgettable fashion — Paris Saint Germain break Marseille hearts to win 2026 Trophée des Champions
Paris Saint Germain claimed the 2026 Trophee des Champions after edging past rivals Marseille 4-1 on penalties following breathtaking 2-2 draw in regulation time on Thursday night at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait.
The latest edition of Le Classique delivered late goals, costly errors and shootout drama as PSG extended their domestic dominance by lifting the French Super Cup for the 12th time in the past 13 year.
Early Dembele strike sets the tone
PSG made fast start and took the lead in the 13 minute through Ousmane Dembele who capitalised on defensive mistake and finished with composure to put the Parisians ahead.
First half saw Marseille respond with greater balance but PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier kept his side in front with several crucial saves including a key stop from Amine Gouiri.
Late drama turns the final on its head
Marseille’s persistence was rewarded in second half. In the 76 minute, Mason Greenwood converted penalty to level the score shifting the momentum of the final.
The turnaround appeared complete in the 87 minute when PSG defender Willian Pacho accidentally turned the ball into his own net handing Marseille 2-1 lead just minutes from full time.
Ramos rescues PSG in stoppage time
Just as Marseille looked set to lift the trophy, substitute Goncalo Ramos struck in the 90+5 minute finishing off move assisted by Bradley Barcola to force the match into penalty shootout.
Chevalier the hero in the shootout
The shootout belonged to PSG and especially to Chevalier. The goalkeeper saved penalties from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore while PSG were flawless from the spot.
Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and Desire Doue all converted sealing 4-1 penalty victory and another piece of silverware for the Parisian giants.
PSG extend Super Cup dominance
The triumph gives PSG their 14 French Super Cup title reinforcing their status as the competition’s most successful club. Only Lille in 2021 have managed to interrupt PSG’s grip on the trophy in more than decade.
For Marseille the wait for a first Trophde des Champions title since 2011 continues despite spirited performance that showcased resilience & belief.
