World Cup 2026: After Cameroon, Eswatini held by Mauritius
Four days after achieving the remarkable feat of holding the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to a draw (0-0), Eswatini couldn't confirm their form against Mauritius, conceding a draw (3-3) this Sunday in Mbombela, South Africa, during the 6th matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The match started ideally for the "Sihlangu Semnikati." The experienced Mthunzi Mkhontfo, in great form, scored a quick double (14th, 19th), giving his team a clear lead.
However, the Mauritians were not done yet. Just after the break, Lindsay Rose, the former Olympique Lyonnais defender, reduced the deficit (48th) before Yannick Aristide leveled just three minutes later (51st).
A draw that benefits neither team!
Despite another goal from Mabuza (75th) for Eswatini, Mauritius snatched a precious point thanks to Vincent Jean, who scored in stoppage time (90+2).
This result benefits neither team. Mauritius remains 4 points behind the 2nd place, temporarily held by Cameroon, who faces Libya on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Eswatini is 7 points behind the Indomitable Lions.
After holding Cameroon, this draw against a team they had beaten 3-0 earlier leaves the Mauritians frustrated. A scenario that hardly reassures the Cameroonians, facing unpredictable opponents in this qualifying phase.
