A few days before the Round of 16 clash between Belgium and Senegal, a statement from Amadou Onana has resurfaced. The Red Devils' midfielder admitted that he did not want to face the Lions of Teranga at the World Cup.

"During the draw, I was telling myself: 'Oh God, please let Senegal and Belgium not be in the same group,'" revealed the Aston Villa player.

The reason? Amadou Onana has Senegalese roots. He did not want to go up against the country of his ancestry. But fate had other plans. Having avoided being drawn in the same group, the two teams now meet in the Round of 16 this Wednesday.

This encounter promises to be an emotional one for Onana, who finds himself torn between his commitment to Belgium and his family ties in Senegal.
