At the end of the first half of this round of 16 clash at the 2026 World Cup, Brazil trails Japan (0-1).

It must be said, the Seleção lacked creativity and initiative in their play. Brazil simply couldn't rely on flashes of brilliance from Vinicius, who was tightly marked throughout. Apart from a couple of central strikes from Vinicius and Cunha, the Brazilians posed little threat.

On the other side, Japan was well-organized and looked to break on the counter at every opportunity. In the 29th minute, Japanese midfielder Sano intercepted the ball and made a sensational run from the center circle, helping Japan open the scoring.

Carlo Ancelotti will have to find answers during the break.
