World Cup 2026: Costa Rica won't be there

Major shock in the CONCACAF zone: Costa Rica will not take part in the 2026 World Cup. The team, a regular at the tournament, finished third in its group, behind Haiti and Honduras.

On Tuesday night into Wednesday, Costa Rica could only manage a draw against Honduras, sealing their fate and eliminating them from the intercontinental playoff race. This comes as a massive upset, since Costa Rica had qualified for the last three World Cups and even reached the quarter-finals in 2014, where they were knocked out on penalties by the Netherlands.
