In a press conference on Monday, Didier Deschamps removed the favorite status from the French national team.

The French manager refused to see Les Bleus as the top favorites for this 2026 World Cup. Instead, Deschamps handed that label to Spain.

"That some Spaniards consider us favorites for the World Cup... If there's one favorite team, it's definitely Spain. Even though France, like six or seven other nations, legitimately has the ambition to win this title, the road will be long and tough, as always. France has top-level potential, even with a squad renewal. (...) I'm not going to say France is stronger than the rest. The big favorite is Spain, I have no doubt about that," said Didier Deschamps with a smile.
