After knocking out England, Lionel Messi turned his attention to the final against Spain, an opponent he knows all too well.

Having just booked his place in another World Cup final, Lionel Messi is already looking ahead to the ultimate showdown against Spain. Following Argentina’s victory over England (2-1), the Albiceleste captain expressed enormous respect for La Roja, whom he considers one of the finest teams on the planet.

“Spain is a great team, with outstanding players and a very distinctive style of play. It’s a team I know very well, with a philosophy they’ve followed for many years,” the Argentine number 10 told reporters in the mixed zone.

However, this final will also have a special flavor for the former FC Barcelona star.

“I’ve faced many of them and I still keep an eye on them. Several play for FC Barcelona, a club I love. So this will be a special match, because it’s a World Cup final, and I naturally expect a fiercely contested encounter,” he concluded.
