The new top scorer of the World Cup is Lionel Messi. After netting a brace against Austria (2-0) — and a hat-trick against Algeria (3-0) — the Argentine has overtaken Miroslav Klose to claim the all-time top scorer record with 18 goals.

Speaking to FIFA, Klose expressed his deep admiration.

Messi is simply Messi. I have always admired the way he solves problems and his character as a person. In 2006, he was still on the bench until he earned the coach’s trust. And what he’s achieved since then... I take my hat off to him. It’s no easy feat, either.
