World Cup 2026: Mustapha Sangaré reportedly chooses Mali!

Eligible for three national teams, Mustapha Sangaré seems to have made his decision regarding his international future as the World Cup 2026 qualifiers in the Africa Zone resume.

Having joined Levski Sofia from Varzim last summer, the talented 26-year-old forward has several national options. Born in the Paris region, he can represent France, but also Mali and Senegal, thanks to his Malian (father) and Senegalese (mother) roots.

A clear preference for Mali

Despite his three possibilities, Sangaré has never been called up, either for the senior team or the youth squads. However, his choice seems clear. In an interview with Africasport24, he expressed his desire to represent Mali:

“I have dual nationality, my mother is Senegalese, my father Malian, and I was born in France. Since turning professional, I've discussed it with my family, but my wish is to play for Mali.”

An uncertain future in national selection

Since his arrival in Bulgaria, the 1.96m striker has been delivering solid performances: 25 matches, 6 goals and 6 assists. An encouraging record that might attract the attention of the Eagles' coach, Tom Saintfiet.

However, a call-up as early as March to face Comoros and Central African Republic seems unlikely.
