World Cup 2026 (Q): another withdrawal for the Ivory Coast Elephants!

The Ivorian team faces another withdrawal just days before the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After Hamed Junior Traoré's shoulder injury, it's now Bénié Traoré's turn to withdraw.

The 22-year-old winger, who has five caps with the Elephants, underwent wrist surgery this Tuesday, March 18. FC Basel confirmed the operation, noting that the injury had been present for several weeks.

Despite his impressive performance against Young Boys (1-2 loss) in the Swiss Super League last Sunday, Traoré now needs to take a rest period.

A blow for Emerse Faé

His absence is a major blow for coach Emerse Faé, who is preparing the Elephants at the FUS Sports Center in Rabat, Morocco. The match against Burundi is scheduled for Friday in Meknès for the fifth round of qualifiers. Traoré will also miss the match against Gambia next Monday in Abidjan.

To cover for these absences, Mohamed Diomandé from Glasgow Rangers has been called up as reinforcement.

The reigning African champions will have to rely on their depth to stay on course in these crucial qualifiers.
