World Cup 2026 (Q): Aubameyang scores twice to lead Gabon!
The indomitable Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang once again proved his worth by delivering a crucial victory for Gabon against Kenya (2-1) this Sunday during the 6th matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
After being rested against Seychelles (3-0), the ageless 35-year-old Gabonese striker resumed his starting role and made an immediate impact. In the 16th minute, following a pass from Guelor Kanga, he clinically finished to open the scoring.
However, the Kenyans, led by their star Michael Olunga, quickly sought to respond. The Al-Duhail forward thought he had equalized, but his goal was disallowed for offside. He then saw his shot crash against the post, and the "Harambee Stars" squandered a great chance just before halftime.
Aubameyang showcases his efficiency!
Back on the field, the Panthers almost extended their lead through Denis Bouanga, who also hit the post.
Nevertheless, it was captain Aubameyang who once again demonstrated his effectiveness. After a Kenyan handball in the box, the star Al Qadisiya striker converted the penalty in the 52nd minute to secure his brace.
Despite Olunga's goal in the 62nd minute to cut the deficit, Gabon held firm to maintain their lead. With this victory, the Gabonese temporarily take the top spot in Group F, ahead of Ivory Coast, who will face Gambia on Monday.
