World Cup 2026 (Q): "Facing Morocco is a unique feeling," says Badou Zaki

The head coach of Niger, Badou Zaki, recently spoke to the local Moroccan press about the match between his team and the Atlas Lions of Morocco. This encounter is part of the 5th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

On Friday, March 21, Niger will attempt to pull off an upset against Morocco in the 5th round of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers. The match will be held at the Honor Stadium in Oudja at 21:30 GMT. Just 48 hours before this clash, Badou Zaki expressed his distress, as he is compelled to face a nation to which he belongs and has long served as a player.

"Honestly, I would not have wished to find myself in such a situation. I have dedicated a large part of my life to defending Morocco's colors. Today, facing the Atlas Lions is a unique feeling. The Moroccan national team will always have a special place in my heart. But today, I am engaged in a new adventure. I am fully focused on my team, which is preparing for an important match," he said.

Badou Zaki very focused on the details

Despite his patriotic spirit and declared love for Morocco, Badou Zaki does not forget his mission as the head coach of Niger. The 65-year-old technician wants to create a surprise against the Atlas Lions, even though the task is complicated. "We are going to face a team composed of players playing at the highest international level. Their experience and quality are superior in every way. But we are not coming to take pictures with the Moroccan players. We are coming to achieve a good result," he continued.
