World Cup 2026 (Q): Livramento propels Cape Verde to the top of Group D

Cape Verde triumphed away against Angola (2-1) thanks to a brace from Dailon Rocha Livramento, during the sixth matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The visitors opened the scoring just before halftime. Sent through with a deep pass, Livramento beat Neblu with a precise shot (45+2’). Angola responded immediately after the break. From a poorly cleared free-kick, Gelson Dala capitalized on a scramble to equalize (50’).

But the Blue Sharks quickly regained the lead. Once again sent through, Livramento beat the Angolan goalkeeper with an unstoppable cross shot (60’). Angola pushed hard in the last quarter of an hour. Zini and Vidigal tried their luck, but to no avail. Cape Verde, well-organized, withstood the opponents' attacks and held onto their precious lead until the final whistle.

Thanks to this victory, Cape Verde (13 points) climbs to the top of Group D ahead of Cameroon and strengthens its ambitions for a historic qualification. Angola, on the other hand, loses valuable points at home and will need to respond in the upcoming matches.
